Brag about yourself - what makes you great at what you do?
I am a creative designer. I love working in textiles of all sorts to create the chuppah, the first "home" a Jewish couple will use. I create custom designed chuppahs. I have started renting my designed chuppahs. I am also venturing into a companion piece, the Shabbat or holiday tablecloth that will have applique designs and the names of the family embroidered on the cloth. Perfect as a gift in the new home or for a presentation gift for organizations to give to honorees.
One of the reason I started this business is because I believe in giving back to the Jewish people. I want my business to succeed so I can use the money to donate to people and organizations in need. As part of this philosophy I also offer my clients the opportunity to take 10% of the cost of the work and donate it to charity. They get the deduction and I get 10% less profit.
I have been an artist since I was a young girl learning the basic elements of art from my mother, also an artist. I have always thought outside the box when creating with my textiles. I love attending classes and conferences with the best and the brightest in my field of Textile Art. I will ofter use what I have learned to enhance my work.
My fine art work and my Judaica have been exhibited. I have had a piece of work in a magazine. I made the quilt for a book cover.
Prior to opening my business I taught early childhood education. I gained a tremendous insight into what makes people tick. Children don't put on fronts. I learned to deal with real feelings and being sensitive to the needs that are a result of those feelings. This sensitivity has helped me immensely in my business. I call it my sixth sense or "reading between the lines of a clients mind." I work well with interpreting my clients ideas and turning their ideas into a design or vision of their chuppah.
What types of business contacts are you looking to make?
This is a Jewish organization therefore I am sure there are members who know someone who is in need of a chuppah.
I am looking for help in running the business end of my business. I am poor at best in the technical end of bookkeeping and managing the little money I have. According to the IRS I have 2 more years until my business is considered a "hobby". I would like to make it a business.
I would like to meet people who can guide me in organizational component of my business. The problem is I need this advice with hardly an cost involved.
Computer help would be great too.
